I met Titus Brandsma

In the course of the years many testimonies have been given about Titus Brandsma. Some were recorded or written down and collected by the NCI. Many people have met Titus Brandsma and were impressed by him. More than half a century later some still remember their first meeting with this Carmelite friar.

In 1999 a testimony was recorded of someone who was still a young man when visiting the monastery of Father Titus. As a volunteer of the parish he had to speak with the Prior of the Convent. During his talk with the Prior Titus Brandsma entered the room. He had to give lectures at the university and asked his Prior permission to leave the monastery. As was customary, Father Titus knelt down for a sign of the cross on his forehead. The young man, who saw this happening, was deeply impressed. He knew that Titus Brandsma was a renowned professor at the Catholic University. He also knew that the Prior for whom Titus knelt, was a simple baker before entering de Carmelite Order.
